Database hosting
Virtual Internet offer database hosting for both Windows and Linux. These database options can be shared, dedicated or managed to your specific requirement.
MS SQL DATABASE BACKUP & RESILIENCE OPTIONS:

- Database Failover & clustering
Database Mirroring
For a two-node cluster this requires 2 x MS-SQL 2005 Standard Edition installations on windows 2003 Standard Edition OS and a third server as a witness server.
It also requires code change so that the web servers will recognise that it can use the failover server if the primary stops responding.
Database Mirroring only supports two-nodes and cannot be expanded further.
Failover Clustering
For a two-node cluster this requires 2 x MS-SQL 2005 Standard Edition installations on windows 2003 Enterprise Edition OS and a directly attached storage device (SAN). The reason for the Enterprise Edition OS is because failover clustering require MS Cluster Service which is only available in Enterprise Edition or above and the reason for the SAN is because MS-SQL must see the device as a local drive on both server and the SAN must handle the IO (input/output) failover.
This solution does not require any code change as cluster service uses a shared IP address which fails from one server to the other.
If you require more than a two-node failover cluster then you would need to use MS-SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition rather than Standard Edition.
In both cases you would just create and do modifications of any databases on the primary SQL Server and the changes would be replicated to the failover.
